Privacy Policy

Overview

JRDrive is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use JRDrive on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, Android and Windows.

In short: we have no accounts and no servers that see your files or credentials. The free versions on iPhone, iPad and Android show ads from Google AdMob, which collects some device data as described below. Premium removes ads. JRDrive on Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and Windows shows no ads. Windows-specific details are in JRDrive for Windows below.

Information We Collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and we never collect your files, file names, storage credentials or encryption passwords. Information is collected only in these cases:

  • Advertising (free versions on iPhone, iPad and Android only). Ads are served by Google AdMob. Google may collect a device or advertising identifier, your approximate location derived from your IP address, ad interactions, and diagnostic data, to serve and measure ads and prevent fraud. On iOS, JRDrive does not request permission to track you, so Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) is not available to Google. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. Upgrading to Premium turns ads off.
  • Feedback you send. When you use the in-app feedback form we receive your message, the email address if you choose to give one, your device model, operating system and app version, and a one-way hash of the app's device identifier (used to group messages from the same device and limit spam).
  • Feedback by email (Windows). JRDrive for Windows has no feedback form and sends nothing itself: Send Feedback opens your own email app with a message to us, which you can read and change before sending. We receive what you send, including your email address and the details described below.
  • Anonymous purchase statistics (Android only). To find and fix problems with buying Premium, the Android app counts a few events — the app being opened (with whether you are on the free plan, a trial or Premium), the upgrade screen being shown, a purchase being tapped, and the response Google Play gives (for example a status code). Each event is sent with a random ID created for this installation, the app version and your country. It contains no name, email, account, device identifier, file, folder or storage-service information. Events are queued on your device and sent about once a day, and shortly after a purchase attempt. Nothing is sent until Google Play's age check has answered, and never for users Google Play identifies as under 18. We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping purchases working. The data is stored in a Google spreadsheet that only we can access (Google acts as our service provider) and is deleted after 12 months. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Share anonymous purchase stats; turning it off also deletes the random ID from your device.

We do not sell your personal information.

Your Advertising Choices

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland: JRDrive is adding Google's consent form, which asks for your choice before personalized ads are shown and lets you change it later in Settings → Privacy Choices. Until it reaches your version of the app, Google serves only limited, non-personalized ads (or none) in these regions.
  • Everyone: on iOS, ads are never personalized using IDFA. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings.
  • Premium removes ads entirely.

Remote Server Connections

JRDrive allows you to connect to various remote storage servers and cloud providers (such as Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, SFTP, FTP, SMB, and many others). When you connect to these services:

  • Your server credentials are stored securely and locally on your device
  • On iOS, credentials are encrypted and stored in the iOS Keychain
  • On Android, credentials are encrypted using EncryptedSharedPreferences backed by the Android Keystore (AES-256-GCM)
  • On Windows, credentials are encrypted with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI) for your Windows account
  • JRDrive communicates directly with your servers - we never see or store your credentials
  • Your files are transferred directly between your device and your remote servers
  • No file content passes through our servers

File Access and Storage

JRDrive accesses your remote storage files solely for the purpose of displaying, managing, and transferring them as you direct:

  • Files are streamed directly from your remote servers
  • Downloaded files are stored temporarily in your device's cache
  • Thumbnail previews are generated and cached locally on your device
  • No file content is ever transmitted to our servers
  • All file operations occur between your device and your remote servers

Encrypted Remotes

JRDrive supports encrypted remote configurations:

  • Encryption passwords are stored locally on your device only
  • All encryption and decryption occurs on your device
  • We have no access to your encryption keys or decrypted content
  • Your encrypted data remains encrypted in transit and at rest on cloud providers

Data Storage

Any preferences, settings, or remote configurations you set within JRDrive are stored locally on your device only. This information:

  • Never leaves your device (except for platform backups if enabled, such as iCloud or Android Auto Backup)
  • Is not accessible to us or any third parties
  • Can be deleted by uninstalling the app
  • Is not shared with other applications

Third-Party Services

JRDrive connects to third-party cloud storage providers that you configure. Each cloud provider has their own privacy policies that govern your data stored on their services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any cloud services you connect to JRDrive.

Besides the storage providers you choose, JRDrive uses Google AdMob for ads in the free iPhone, iPad and Android versions (see above), Google Apps Script to receive feedback, and Apple and Google for purchases. On Windows, Microsoft handles purchases.

Album art and media details (all platforms). To show cover art for your music and posters and details for your films and shows, JRDrive can look them up online: it sends song, film or show titles (and years) taken from your file and folder names to Apple's iTunes Search, TVmaze and TMDB (The Movie Database), and downloads the artwork they return. It never sends the files themselves, and like any internet request the lookup shows your IP address to the service that answers. On Windows, TMDB is only used if you add your own TMDB key; see JRDrive for Windows for the Windows details. Privacy policies: Apple, TVmaze, TMDB.

Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

In-App Purchases

JRDrive offers a premium upgrade through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Store. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple, Google or Microsoft respectively. We do not collect or store any payment information.

JRDrive for Windows

JRDrive for Windows, from the Microsoft Store, has no ads, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting, and there is no JRDrive server.

What stays on your PC

  • Your remotes and their configuration, settings, sync jobs, transfer history, Recents and Favorites, the search index, thumbnail and media caches, offline copies and logs are stored in JRDrive's app data on your PC.
  • Passwords, sign-in tokens and other credentials, and a TMDB key if you add one, are encrypted with Windows Data Protection (DPAPI) for your Windows account.
  • If you turn on File Explorer integration, the remotes you choose appear in folders under your user folder; files are downloaded there only when you open them.
  • Your configuration and credentials never leave your PC unless you export them: a settings backup is a file you save yourself, with any saved connections encrypted using a passphrase you choose.

What JRDrive connects to

  • Your storage services. JRDrive connects directly to the clouds, servers and NAS you add. Signing in to services such as Google Drive or OneDrive opens the provider's page in your web browser, and the sign-in returns straight to JRDrive on your PC.
  • Your local network, only when you scan for NAS and SMB shares.
  • Microsoft Store, to check whether you own JRDrive Premium and to handle a purchase or restore. Microsoft processes these under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
  • Album art. When a song has no cover image in its folder or file, JRDrive can look one up on Apple's iTunes Search by sending the file's name (without its extension). This is on by default; turn it off in Settings → Media → Look Up Album Art Online. It never happens for files on encrypted remotes.
  • Media library (Premium or trial). To find posters and details, JRDrive sends the titles (and years) it reads from your video file and folder names to Apple's iTunes Search and TVmaze, and to TMDB only if you add your own TMDB key in Settings → Media. Encrypted remotes are never scanned. Artwork is then downloaded from those services.

Like any internet request, these lookups show your IP address to the service that answers them. See the privacy policies of Apple, TVmaze and TMDB.

Feedback and logs

  • Send Feedback opens your email app with a message to support@jpathak.com. Besides your message and category it includes the JRDrive version and build, your Windows version and build, the PC architecture, your locale and a random install ID created by JRDrive (not a hardware identifier). You can edit or remove any of it before sending.
  • Logs stay on your PC. Export logs… saves a zip that you choose where to put; it has passwords and tokens removed but can contain the names of your remotes, files and folders. We only see it if you attach it to an email.

Children's Privacy

JRDrive is not directed at children. Ads are limited to content suitable for general audiences, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.

Delete Your Data (JRDrive)

JRDrive has no accounts, so almost everything lives only on your device. To delete it:

  1. Data on your device (storage connections, credentials, settings, cache, offline files): remove remotes in the app, or uninstall JRDrive. This deletes it immediately.
  2. Feedback you sent us (message, optional email, device model, hashed device identifier; on Windows, the email you sent and the details it included): email support@jpathak.com with the subject “JRDrive data deletion” and the email address you used, if any. We delete it within 30 days and keep nothing afterwards.
  3. Anonymous purchase statistics (Android): these carry only a random per-install ID that we cannot link to you. Turn them off in Settings → Share anonymous purchase stats, which also deletes the ID; uninstalling resets it too. Stored counts are deleted automatically after 12 months.
  4. Advertising data collected by Google AdMob: managed by Google; use myadcenter.google.com or your device's ad settings.

Your Rights

Storage connections, settings and caches live on your device; remove them in the app or by uninstalling it. To ask about or delete feedback you sent, email us. For data collected by Google for advertising, use the choices above or Google’s tools at myadcenter.google.com. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or US state privacy laws) you may have rights to access, correct, delete or opt out of certain uses of your data; contact us to exercise them.
